Hands first,
Methodically,
On the left knob-
Switch swiftly to right;
Cranking the water on,
Pipes clatter and whine,
But legs next,
Methodically,
First the left step, -
Second-step-right;
Ensure the slippery film
Of new-lain, steaming
water
Does not fight back.
Body, whole-
All its crooks and crevices
and conscious
of itself
(always so much so) ,
Hips precede,
Shoulders follow.
Burning stabs-stabbings of heated Iron (-y)
It seems,
Have burst over the boundaries,
And I am shivering again,
Selfish and ashamed,
Gripping the tiny plastic nodules
on the basin of the tub floor,
Holding on-with
These toes; last:
Left look - QUICK -
To the mirror,
Right smash, slowly, eeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssssssse
Back into the fire.
