Shoulder Talk

To whom are you listening to?
Who has your ear now?
From whom will you take life’s cue?
And cause your knees to bow

On each shoulder someone’s whiling
Each night and every day
Guiding one’s soul or beguiling
Along life’s gruelling Way

Somewhere, somebody is talking
In darkness or in light
Deceiving, perhaps remarking
To cheer you or slight

The devil’s out to cheat and lie
To hide life’s sought for goal
To keep in sin until we die
To claim our precious soul

Unlike life’s alluring traitor
Unlike hell’s evil clan
Jesus, our soul creator
Love’s saving, fallen man

To devil’s ploys best pay no heed
However choice or sweet
Be wise, pray God’s Holy Ghost lead
And sit at Jesus’ feet

Nowhere is better or finer
Though rich, beggar or poor
Whether aging soul or minor
Jesus will all endure

Listen to God with all your heart
Though aching is your soul
Let no temptation cause to part
From life’s eternal goal…..
