Shotgun Wedding Poem by Juan Olivarez

Shotgun Wedding

It was a shotgun wedding,
Done country style.
The groom was fretting,
But her father smiled.

The bride was happy,
On the outside.
The groom just looked sappy,
And tried to hide.

The bride dressed in white,
A most tasteless joke.
The groom looked a fright,
And almost choked.

Dearly beloved,
The preacher said.
And the groom passed out,
And hit his head.

He was rushed to the doctor,
Who pronounced him fit.
While he asked him about her,
The groom said 'please quit.'

Then her father came in,
And took him outside.
On his face was a grin,
That he couldn't hide.

Back to the preacher,
And the blushing bride.
With the shotgun the feature,
Stuck in his side.
