Shifting Sands Poem by Yasmin Khan

Shifting Sands

Rating: 5.0

Ah! Some words inscribed and a face
Captured by an artificial eye
Were turned into friendship and solace
Thoughts awry were set on course
Whims and fancies found their groove
Word reassuring, smiling and repose
A bond forthright void of affectation
Like a thread fragile was it broken
Feet on shifting sands, unsteady sensation
Script on the beach was effaced, awash
Life's lessons learnt as waves swash

The fragility of human relationships wonderfully compared with something written or drawn in the sand. I like very much the last line that contrasts the transientness with the permanence of the life lesson learnt.

Some we think are friends are not true friends at all - such are indeed rare gems to treasure if we are lucky enough to be blessed with them. Excellently Jasmeen.

True friends are rare, with a lot of friends were on shifting sands, it is a hard lesson we learn from them! Great write!
