Shes Mine Poem by Jessica Henning

Shes Mine

Rating: 5.0

we sat there at the table not eight months ago
you said that it was possible but you didn’t want to know

a tear fell down your cheek as I held onto your hand
I told you I would go if that’s what you demand

You said that you would keep it that it was meant to be
You said you couldn’t do it that you needed help from me

I told you id always be there to guide you through it all
Id always wipe your tears and catch you b4 you fall

Were best friends and that’s what im for
I love you always even more than before

I took you to lamaze and was your partner through the class
You kept on getting bigger as the time started to pass

A girl youd hoped it be for you had a name you chose
You didn’t get it from a book but from a flower called a rose

In the delivery room I was by your side
I wiped your tears you managed to have cried

A rose was born that night even though she was early
She had hair as dark as the night but just as soft and curly

You left her there with me so you could wash your face
You left her there with me and took off to beat the race

You left a note tucked below her pillow and signed it just for me
You said that she was mine and that god wanted it to be

You said that she was mine even if its not by blood
You said id get the hang and nip it in the bud

The sky was gray the next morning as I turned on my tv
The reporter said she slid off the road right into a tree

The girl lay there sprawled across the road
I knew it was you and a faith in me bestowed

We went to say goodbye and to ask you to watch my back
To pick me up off the ground if I start to slack

An angel touched me in the heart before she left the earth
She left a piece of her with me here given by her birth
