Shelling Peas On Boulders Beach [for My Mother] Poem by Gillian Commerford

Shelling Peas On Boulders Beach [for My Mother]

I can see you in my mind's eye
warmer than a photograph
leading me to Boulders Beach
along the Bridle Path.

In sunhat and glasses
you'd sit shelling your peas
while I took my lilo
to ride the wild seas.

Your body grew older
but to me you're always young
mysterious in your sunhat
hallowed by the sun.
