She Trades The Kingdom Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

She Trades The Kingdom

Leaves flow through the balcony door
Like a Las Vegas drunk shuffling cards
Scattered life's held together by money
By sex, by codependency
Shall we cling like silver cigarette cases?
The roaring twenties hide the awful sun
Your visions are desolate fallout shelters
Validation needs no mansions
Your magnificent fortress crumbles

Eras like great plates hitting one another
Stepping out into the void
Earth quaking like a horrid divorce
Human nature is hard to crucify
Your maudlin love is an excuse
Your intelligence a mask
Your relationships the serpents tongue
Exemptions run out in the barren soul
She trades the kingdom for a few orgasms
