She Is The Stone Poem by Frederick Francis

She Is The Stone

The ripples that fade back to tranquility.
My smile diminishes in much the same manner.
You are the stone, cast to break the calm surface.
Noticed at the point of impact, then fading out of sight.
We were destined to have only a moment, this I won’t fight.

Your perfume lingers as long as my smile.
It is familiar; I have known that fragrance before.
But you would make the sight of my own hands
Seem like an exhilaratingly new revelation.
Still we just cross lives without any hesitation.

The sun aspires to shine like your golden hair.
Your eyes are a blue that the ocean will never know.
I’d offer my breath as an ocean breeze if you’d not already taken it.
They’re so deep, the single tear quivering would flood my existence.
I move past you quickly, staring straight with persistence.

I can’t imagine who ever could have hurt you.
We share that wound, maybe that’s what I’m drawn to.
If we met, I’m sure for hours we could converse,
But I’m afraid you’d confirm this world is inverse,
From the generally good place I thought it was.
