She Cried Poem by Matthew Moser

She Cried

I once was given a book a long ago,
By a girl i thought I knew,
It has a poem in its insides,
About hearts being fixed by tape and glue,

And though I wish there was that kind guiding hand,
To fix my heart once torn asunder,
Truthfully it's a fist of lead,
Is crushing my heart right under,

For the prince did, another wed,
and ever since his tears were shed,
For his mermaid who danced with blood and pain,
has evermore cursed his name.

and if she would her curse reverse,
and grow her fins once more,
this prince who lives on land would sail,
forever from the shore.

if her voice did call even as a sirens lure,
i would gladly end my life,
to have her words endure.

I still remember her eyes, of palest sapphires blue,
and her hand so gentle applying tape and glue,
I know why the sky cries when it rains,
for until she forgives me (if she ever does)
tears fall from me in bitter, self hating pain.
