Shadow Of Dreams Poem by Oni Omotayo

Shadow Of Dreams

So many questions sit itself on the meaning of life
And much answer escapes our little philosophy
Love is like the worthless piece left in the stowage
Roaming the side of the coast, lost in her voyage
With open heart left alone in the shadows of dreams
There in the wretched cold of a lonely misery
Like I had known when in our eyes we met
But I was wrong when from our heart we spoke
Of your heartfelt response you were never sure.
I struggled with the night and my heart won't let me be
For the thought of you I exhaust my affections
I broke the stalk of a rose that could only have grown once an age
With a fragile vase I found my way to you
With hope to gain this desire of the crown
A queen to stand with me when kings are falling
And so, I knocked on the heart of a friend only to hear you say never
I don't know what to say but I really have loved you
The thought of you is famous among the daughters
And your smiles is prominent in the seat of my heart
Give now an answer I pray thee
To the whistling puzzles of my bleeding heart
You took from me the picture of my dream girl
And there in my nightmare I watched you walk away.
Will time to me gather again the strength to love?
Have I not given out my heart never to return again?
Why then is road to happiness borne with complications?
I still have desired non but you
And will stare on you with tearful eyes
Till you finally give away to another
Seeing your back fade out of my sight
Then shall I return to the garden of creation
With more questions in my book of thought
For many more will come my way
But none will ever smile like you do and none will ever be you.
I will cite your name in the tales of affinity
I will yet keep you to heart
Thanks to you my many world, let me love no one but you.
