Shadow Poem by Ryan Brodesser

Shadow

A shadow in the night appears

To do a duty, to help its peers

A shadow of the night come home from the grave

Where so much fear had held it slave

The shadow has no shape, neither women nor man

Appearing conjured where its troubles began

It peers about looking through tired grey eyes

Looking at the spot where another body lies

Another shadow appears and takes the others hand

The deed is done, time to leave this land

Turning away, the first leads the second shadow gently away

Leaving the tormented body cold and splay
