Self Government Poem by Eric Bult

Self Government

Obedience to unenforceable
But good, authority can only prove
Whether a people shall be governable,
And forward thus together they can move.
Without self discipline no person should
Expect all those in sight, or not with him,
To so conduct themselves as he then would,
Were he himself so honest and so prim.
Those who now long for laws to be obeyed
Should first examine conduct of their own.
Then only when attention has been paid
May they then build on that true cornerstone.

Our Judge in all things only knows if we
Have answered truly to this question, see?
