~seeking Safety~ Poem by Soulful One

above the passions of the flesh
beyond the overflowing love that fills our hearts
more than the certainty of a shared destiny
I need to know that
your hands and heart
are the shelter, security and safety
my heart is seeking

if my body heart and soul
lay weak and vulnerable before you
shrouded in warm comforting intimacy
will you wrap me in your strength
as you help build me up and make me stronger?

can your love colored eyes
see me for who I am
just as I am
and lovingly accept
the good, the bad,
and the not so pretty
just the same?

are you willing to earn my trust
and let me earn yours
thru the tests of time and adversity
and prove ourselves faithful
by the deeds of our hearts and minds
and not just the words of our mouths
yet, still prove our words to be true
by our actions?

will you slay every lion, dragon and monster
my mind can imagine to allay my fears?

and when I am wrong or hurt you unintentionally
will you forgive rather than condemn me
will you fight to stay connected with me
even thru the hurt and confusion
rather than turn your back and withhold your love
holding reconciliation and restoration above
all transgressions?

I need to know you will…

be open, close, intimate, vulnerable and
honestly share your real feelings, fears, failures and hurts
with me in complete trust

speak the truth, confront and humble me in love rather
than allowing me to continue in my wrongness

be responsible for your words and decisions
rather than pointing fingers at all but yourself

help me work out our problems rather than avoid them

be “us-centered” and not “self-centered”

give me the freedom to still be ME in the midst of US
and that together we can still be separate, as well as ONE

see me as an equal, allow and accept my different-ness?

hold the secrets that I whisper in your ear in the dead of night
closely to your heart ‘til the day you take your last breath
and your light departs from this world

we can love each other with an earnestly tender love
that is as right as rain on a scorchingly hot summer day
our flesh can meld together like paint on a canvas, two
separate colors coming together to create something
different, new, sensual and beautiful

our souls may have been mated and destined before time
entered into creation, and our existence was kissed forth
on the breeze of dawn as all that is came to be

but even above and beyond our love and
soulfully passionate connection
in the here and now, at this point in time
after creation has fallen and we have exited Eden

I need to know that all that I am and ever hope to be
will find the shelter, the security, the safety
I long for and need in your hands and heart

and I need you to know that you can find
that same shelter, security and safety
in mine
