Secrets of state, said my codex,
classic examples of which would be the Ems letter
and (doubtless) Irangate,
may without blame be unbosomed
but not before the lapse of three moons.
Shall the deesse of secrecy, her complexion avocado,
her temples plaited with slender snakes,
awaken, pardon the indiscretion, then resume her trance-
during which time she listens, vengefully, the wide world over
for the seismic disclosures of confidences
to forgive which one must burn the stamens of gentian?
