Secret Subterranean Messages Poem by C Richard Miles

Secret Subterranean Messages

First make your marks in arcane, ancient cuneiform
To mould mere indents upon soft, supple, passive clay,
Impress with fine, firm fingers, opening the account,
Initiating interaction, starting soft,
So we shall know but still the world, unknowing,
Cannot decipher all our subtle signs and codes.

Insist upon some extinct, esoteric, ornate Ogham,
Some script unconned by minds of modern man;
Manipulate with mounting might your time-trained tools
To convey connivance of those tender thoughts.
List on that line so fine and straight and narrow
That text that time and atmosphere may not excise.

Soon come to write in rustic runes insistent:
That furtive Futhark that we two may only read.
Dictate desires, designed by deep dynamic drives
Through well-honed handicraft in skilful strokes
Which mere humanity views vain, in vacant visions
But deeper meanings seep subsumed within.

Then hidden hieroglyphs convey intense connection
Drawn deep within the confines of that tranquil tomb
Which trembles, thrilling at the thoughts
Of endless esoteric essential experiences
Each etched, embedded in those cryptic caverns:
Mystic messages you send that others just ignore.

Make statements in profound and practised Sanskrit
Unkenned by learned, aged aficionados yet,
But yet demanding my full rapt attention still
When pounded out with strong and forceful thrusts
That rumble subterranean in fundamental depths
To send those silent signals that I long to feel.

Eventually enter in that deep, dark dungeon
To daub cave-paintings on that waiting wall
In secret symbols, which strong human hands
Have hammered out through time, though tenderly
With deft, lithe fingers, trace your intimations now,
So we can share secure whilst civilization simply spurns.
