Sean Moylan Kept The Flag Flying Poem by Francis Duggan

Sean Moylan Kept The Flag Flying

In Towns and Villages around North Cork and Duhallow
His will always be a well remembered name
As a freedom fighter and a straight talking politician
Sean Moylan kept the flag flying for Kiskeam.

He was a man who never shirked a challenge
The bravest of the brave Duhallow men
And he was the one who planned and led the ambush
Near Ballydesmond at Tureengarriffe Glen.

He was one trusted and admired by many
A natural leader he was born to lead
He led in the fight for Ireland's independence
And in politics he later did succeed.

Sean Moyland kept the flag flying for Duhallow
And in every Cork and Kerry border Town
Old timers in pubs relate stories of him
He was the man who carved his own renown.

As a young boy i heard him speak in Millstreet
On the back of a lorry in the old Town Square
Wearing dark rimmed glasses perhaps then in his sixties
He still had a full head of silver hair.

Sean Moyland was a legend of my boyhood
And that's going back some fifty years ago
He led in the fight for Ireland's independence
And in death his legend only seem to grow.
