Scoundrels Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Scoundrels

The number
Of pages
Being written
On Rape can
Never equate
The number
Of pages of pain
Written on her body
By those scoundrels
Who considered her
Nothing more than
A body.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

It is quite a surprise that the living goddess is waylaid in the land of divine feminty. When I was growing up in Calcutta, Durgaa used to come to our colony once every year and she was sent back, but little did I know that we sent her packing as a society of people. Some times I wonder where is that great culture? Where are its roots? Did it at all exist? Or was it as fictional as was the mythical character taught to us in school called M K Gandhi? Because one cannot believe that Gandhi was indeed a reality by looking at today's nudity. The Durgaa on the street is more important than the Durgaa in our pandals.
