Scents, Sights And Sounds Of Yesteryear

Rating: 5.0

Scents, sights and sounds of yesteryear
I hold close to my heart so dear
the train whistle blows I hear I hear
as my day comes close I shall not fear
lo the barn outback and a pond at the rear
I know these sights and sounds are oh so near
off the path I shall not veer
cheer cheer
for those sights and sounds of yesteryear
a thin glaze of ice on the trees so clear
a fresh blanket of snow on the ground so pure
though my eyes are fuzzy
I see so clear
a hammer striking the anvil the grist mill grinding grain
career, career
though my ears are weary
I do still hear
oh yes oh so clear so clear
my nose is stuffy but those scents are here
the scent of the christmas tree I smelled
year after year
an apple pie in the oven an aroma that could alure
I yearn for those scents, sights and sounds
of yesteryear.
looking out the lace curtains so sheer
soon I will take my last peer
as I see my age in the mirror
I enjoy those scents, sights and sounds of yesteryear.
an old steamboat pulling into the pier
tooting his horn as the crowds of men women boys and girls cheer, its here, its here.
