Scars Never Heal Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Scars Never Heal

Words cutting through the heart
Inflict hidden wounds that bleed,
The gripping pain that they impart
Live on through the years indeed.

As Anger turns to wanton Rage,
Blows and strikes now find their mark
The helpless victim finds the stage
Where Violence reigns in the dark.

Alone to face this ruthless terror,
Her mind confused, was she to blame?
He loved her once, that was before
Things got worse and he's not the same.

Anguished thoughts, lost self-esteem-
Perhaps her person had no worth?
Her voice now silenced, mute it seems,
Can't speak protest and none goes forth.

She begs for his financial obligation-
Waits for his pity, it's a woman's plight.
He can punish her with sheer deprivation,
Starve her like a slave, to his delight.

Abuse had numbed her total being,
Resigned to a life of a dead-end fate-
Only the will to rise up, keep on living
Redeems her from this misery so great.

Those who have walked on this road of pain,
Know that the nightmares still come to steal
Rest for the mind with no relief from rain-
Wounds may have stopped..... but the scars never heal.
