Scarecrows Poem by stuiterdick stuiterdick

Scarecrows

Rating: 5.0

Magnified by my tears
A bird sat on my windowsill
Reminding me of how I once
Could answer to your call

My feathers cut, no longer free
Indeed this is protecting me
Secured I won’t get hurt.
Can’t fly, must try..shall fall.

Here is where the scarecrows sing
The Scarecrows know my name.
Here, where birds stay caged,
Caged until they’re tamed..
Here is where the birds get fooled
The right of flight denied.
Here is where the scarecrows rule.
That’s why I am so uptight

The scarecrows now, observing me,
Assure me I won’t fly.
Like sentinels they guard their gate,
And sing their lullaby.

Magnified by my tears,
They look me in the eyes
As I try in a last attempt,
To fly away or die..

Here the scarecrows sing,
Although I don’t know why.
Here against all rules
I break down and I cry
Consequences known
If we dare unfold our wings.
Here the scarecrows rule.
Don’t listen when they sing! !

'My feathers cut, no longer free Indeed this is protecting me'. this is so emblematic of the ideas in this. You make the reader work; not that your writing is difficult to follow; no, it is more that it is your ideas which are cerebrally challenging and complex; but a great reward follows in this one, if you can just keep your eye on the ball. Really amazing; hope you will place a lot more of your writing here..(smile)
