Scale Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Scale

Scale

Once
Barter was everything for salt, wheat, skin
Then came metal, coin and, scale...

Once
Man was respected if good hunter, shepherd
Then came the farming and...

Once
Women were the center of creation, mothers
Then, the claim of equality and beauty...

Now
There is a mess named civilization, it is of cities
Claims much, to produce and to give everything

Truly
Cities do give laziness, smoke and mistrust
And each for a price

Honestly
The girls are now wanted for looks and the size
But women aren't mothers
Unwanted when aged

Shame
How the wheel-less poor of the past
Without asphalt and airplane
Was richer in simplicity
Hard to find now
