Saved Poem by Charles Lara

Saved

love slapped me
in the face
kicked me
in the balls
and broke a
bottle of Bombay gin
over my head
as the radio played
the dark side of the moon
and so before I could
wipe the gin away
from my eyes I heard
the door slam and
her high heels
fade with every step
as the sun was
happily hanging outside
showing its full face
over a sapphire belly
of lucid skies
while cold drops
of trickling blood
splattered on the floor
and my calico cat
walked up to me
and took a deep breath
and then sighed
before leaping onto
the window sill
to feel the hands of
the summer afternoon
touch her with
sweet tenderness
