*saul, Saul Poem by Gary Bryson

*saul, Saul

Rating: 2.1

Such evil born the way you came,
To claim your laurels in religious fame.
And the Beloved learn to fear your name,
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

No compassion you give, no mercy, no rest,
You pursue the flock like a demon possessed.
In righteous zeal you excel to the best.
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

This terrible wrong in the name of right,
You move ever onward pursuing your fight.
Like a dog ever circling, ever looking to bite.
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

The banner you wave you truly believe,
You think I approve and the whole world will see,
But my body is broken for the least of these.
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
