Saraswati And Saraswati Poem by Savita Tyagi

Saraswati And Saraswati

Saraswati dried up
The fertile land where thoughts
Spurred like stalks of golden wheat
Have become barren......

Saraswati dried up
The fertile land where stalks of
Golden wheat grew like thoughts
Has become barren....

Note: The Saraswati in first stanza indicates the Goddess of knowledge whose blessings have vanished from poet's mind. The second refers to ancient River Saraswati in India that dried up more that two thousand years ago.

A beautiful analogy indeed. An ancient land of knowledge whose sole heritage is spiritual knowledge (vidya) and not mundane one (avidya): a land of poetry, whose literature was vastly in poetry (over 90%, my guess) , where is it today?

It is best comparison among Saraswati and Saraswati or in the other hand it is between knowledge and land. Very nicely and cleverly presented. A meaningful poem I like most. Thanks for posting.

Wonderful, I missed that meaning on first read! Wonderful 8-liner with such deep meaning of a prehistoric event recently uncovered! Thank you Savita. Tushar
