Sarah's Song (Or Girl Interrupted) Poem by Cecelia GrantPeters

Sarah's Song (Or Girl Interrupted)

Oh her shoes are shiny and her hair is long
And she sings the mighty Sarah's Song
Oh Sarah's Song is a song of rage
With themes she learnt from an early stage
She has no formal education
But she has sheer determination
She's a girl interrupted.

She was gravely used at the age of six
By a Fiend who taught her Adult tricks
So Sarah's Song was a song of rage
With themes acquired at an early age
When the dark days came and the nights of pain
She composed herself with a bold refrain.
Even though what occurred was oh so wrong
She consoled herself with a constant song
And her song was borne out of constant rage
And the strength acquired at an early age

It's been thirty years since that fateful day
When a Fiend took Sarah's joy away
But she overcame and she triumphs still
With a constant song and an iron will.

For she kept on walking and she did not die
And she mocked the Fiend who made her cry
As a girl interrupted she had no rights - then
She was Angry, Hurt, and she Hated men
But she ran from her jail and she now is - free
And she knows she can no longer - be
A girl interrupted

Oh her shoes are shiny and her hair is long
And she keeps on singing Sarah's Song
Now Sarah's Song is a song of praise
With themes she learnt from most recent days
She escaped her jail and she now is - free
And she knows she can no longer - be
A girl interrupted.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Sarah overcame insurmountable odds to become the beautiful and courageous woman she is. She was kind enough to share with me all her life stories and is no longer a 'girl interrupted'....xx
