Santa Claus '85 (Country Song Style) Poem by Pietro Grossi

Santa Claus '85 (Country Song Style)

Florence way back from Preston
December '85
On truck that night I was resting
Out in the countryside

A voice woke me up at once
Stronger than wind of season
'Please give me a lift to town
I just excaped from prison! '

I saw none in the darkness
Then at first I said: 'Scat! '
Then turned lamp on to see
Who asking something like that

And I saw like a shade
Of a guy about 20 years old
Short leaves and bleeding face
Down there freezing from cold.

'Need see my kid for Christmas,
Or I kill myself', he did blurt,
His tears flowing so sincere
Did slowly melt my heart.

I said 'Go in front of truck',
While I turned the lights on,
'Turn around, empty your pockets'
And then I said 'Come on'.

I gave a sweater and coins
To ring, when he left truck,
He kissed my hand, still crying,
And I said 'Boy good luck!

Then Santa Claus did vanish
In the darkness of night
Florence way back from Preston
December '85
