'Sandstorm Love' Poem by J.M Berger

'Sandstorm Love'

all i want is to simply be happy
and nothing else
nothing so easy as to smile at another
why do we cringe instead?
nothing so appreciated as a simple acknowledgment
just a nod of the head...
we think to ourselves: at least in our hearts we know we care
but we keep our care locked inside
and in there, is there any good it does?
with these eyes we can see such beautiful things
but in these eyes, only tears
with these hands, we can write poems, carve great art, heal the sick
but with these hands, we bring only destruction
with these lips, we can taste fruit, or share a kiss
but these lips are cracked and dry

went to the desert so that we could build Artificial Paradise there
but the desert fought back with a sandstorm, said it was already doing fine
