Samarra Poem by O Anna Niemus

Samarra

McKinley's men torched
the villages of Philippines' Samar.
Bush's men bomb Iraq
from Mosul to Samarra.
The ground so hot with
depleted uranium
spark to life can
no seed of samara.
*
(samara: maple seedling)
(Half of the trees in Iraq have
been torched)
