Salamander Poem by Stanley Canfield

O slim and slippery salamander slide
Round and down the river's sloping side
Down to the depths in which you hide

O secret salamander swarthy and swift
Down down you descend from muddy cliff
Into the depths where dreams are cleft

O Salamander small and smooth and should you go
Away away to where the wilding waters flow
I would with you the awful silent wondering know

And I along would gladly go
And I would know that falling way
And I with you in those deepening depths
For just a while would stay would stay
