Sad Truth Poem by Roslyn Hens

Sad Truth

I've long been under the false impression that I suffer from clinical depression. But I now understand that I am not depressed, rather just sad. Every living soul acquires a personality and an overriding emotion on which they return to in the state of neutrality. Mine happens to be one of a melancholy sorrow. I would hesitate to describe myself as happy, but I feel a placid serenity when alone with my thoughts - and that for me, is the closest I will come to utter content. Please forgive me, for I cannot change. You deserve joy and laughter and most of the time, I will not be able to provide you with such charms. But know this - although I wish you not such a burden as myself, when we are together we will both know true satisfaction. Whatever that may be.
