Sabotage Poem by Barry Middleton

Sabotage

It must be sabotage
that came

in stealthy camouflage
to maim.

It hides behind a lie,
a kiss,

just like a foreign spy,
or bliss.

A traitor flees as dreams
betray,

like hopes and schemes
of yesterday.

The poison soon will seize
the brain

beyond all urgent pleas
and pain.

The saboteur then fades
like smoke

into the masquerade's
cruel joke.

I think it is about love, ideology and terrorists. The saboteur could be a deceitful lover or a mad bomber. The spy, the lover and the traitor all from time to time hide behind deceit. The damage done can be physical or spiritual. This type of destructive love or ideology is a toxic poison to the brain. The final conclusion is a cruel joke. My presentation is meant to be whimsical but the deeper meanings are actually tragic.
