If I had never once melted
in your arms or
listened the softness
of your voice singing me to sleep,
it might be easier
to shake these nightly dreams
and piece myself
together.

I'm so frustrated,
so tempted to walk away,
but dreams tease me
and tickle my senses
and another night I wake and reach
for someone who isn't there.

A lonely soul awaiting
a tired lovesong
that you finished singing
long before I could hear.
