Riverine Afloat Poem by Chibueze Oscar Osuji

Riverine Afloat

Rowing in the fisherman's boat
Net and drag ev'ry fish afloat
'Cept for the big dolphins and shark
Which quake across your floating bark;
Rent the wave to glide you ashore
Or drift you 'cross a sea the more,
Let the wind stand ev'ry skin-hair
Swearing to keep you afloat and fair,
In this riverine yet you glide
The titanic wind you abide,
Your hamlet shore, await on land
Upholding applauds hand in hand,
Please be back with the biggest fish
Grill'd with the heat to make a dish,
If the whirlwind blow the riv'rine;
Sweeping you off the blue sea brine,
To the rest of us you are scape goat;
Deep down you drown and not afloat.
