River Oil Poem by SylvaOnyema (SUPER.T) Ubah

River Oil

Rating: 5.0

River oil, river oil
God's natural gift to us
You are like a virgin
Deflowered by her love

River oil, river oil
Our economic gold medal
Running like ceaseless sea
Visiting green lands
Visiting white lands

River oil, river oil
What can we do without you?
You have the face of a lamb
Yet you fly like a vulture

River oil, river oil
Plague to our water
Weed to our plants
Accidental discharge
Of flaming pipelines and tankers

River oil, river oil
The goddess of our Naira
The spinning coin
That determines our breadth
Let not dollars
Quench your fire

River oil, river oil
But for how long
Will your sweet flame
Warm our flag?

River oil, river oil
Neglect to her mother
You are the smile of some
You are the cry of many
