Right To Love Poem by Wakefield Mahon

Right To Love

I remember the day
You gave me the news
Instead of a smile
You were singing the blues
You knew that you could
She said that you should
I reached out to hold you
And then I told you

You've got the right to life
You've got the right to choose
But when the pressure's on like that
Someone is going to lose
Well you can claim your reasons
And you can claim your faith
But I've got the right to love
And no one can take that away

I remember the day
I first heard the sound
Our little boy's heart
Him kicking around
You know that you could have
But think if you would have
Our trailer had no heat
But our lives were so complete

You've got the right to life
You've got the right to choose
But when the pressure's on like that
Someone is going to lose
Well you can claim your reasons
And you can claim your faith
But I've got the right to love
And no one can take that away
