Rhymers Will Always Be Rhymers Poem by Francis Duggan

Rhymers Will Always Be Rhymers

Rhymers will always be rhymers and for as long as they live as rhymers they remain
Penning blank verse does not seem to interest them one might say they have rhyme on the brain
They may be seen as out of fashion by those with their literary degrees
Who are seen as literary experts and for their opinions command high fees
The World would be worse off without music as well as worse off without song
These two seem to go well together and together they seem to belong
Blank verse does not go well with music on saying this I'm not saying anything new
And though rhymers by many are seen as out of fashion they still have their fans and quite a few
Do much prefer rhyme verse to blank verse the literary critics to them cannot tell
That blank verse is the only true poetry and that rhyme is only doggerel
Those who claim what is or is not poetry are opinionated one might say
Yet the old classic poets can rest easy their equals not living today
Rhymers will always be rhymers they are born with the gift of song
And song it is married to music together they seem to belong.
