Reveille In Beverlywood Poem by gershon hepner

Reveille In Beverlywood

Early morning when I’m feeling devilly,

I rise before cockcrow makes reveille,

in order to daven,

which helps me to govern

my woodies in woods close to Beverly.

Inspired by “East of Eden, ” which Linda and I saw this evening. Montgomery Clift plays the role of Private Prewitt who blows the bugle each morning for reveille.

The area where I live is called Beverlywood, just three blocks south of Beverly Hills. Daven is yiddish for pray. It is derived from an Old German word for dawn.
