Restaurant Salad Poem by James Merchant

Restaurant Salad

Rating: 4.5

See-through salad
A person is in that meal
All their biases and tastes
Their fussy little details
Their mental health
Their self-consciousness
Their determination
Healthy or otherwise
It's only a salad
But I see more versions of you in it
Then in the deepness of your smiling eyes

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Frank Avon 20 September 2014

Once again, elegant in its simplicity. I know what you mean. My wife and I have been married for fifty-two years. Still every meal she prepares is a bit of a surprise. She prepares the food, and I do the dishes and clean the kitchen. She likes to try new recipes, but she always changes it just a bit to make it her own. Little things mean a lot. Would that everyone could be taught to read and write poems like yours. It makes me hope you're a teacher.
