Renegade Dreams Poem by John Zeller

Renegade Dreams

freezing my tears
next to my fears
in a cedar box
i hide in the attic

sealed in an envelope
folded twice over
a dream and a hope
i stashed in the cellar

locked in the volt
a can of my fires
threw away the key
to protect my desires

all of my feelings
i've had thus far
under fig newtons
in a cookie jar

from renegade dreams
i distance myself
by putting my soul
upon the top shelf

everything is protected
so that’s how it seems
but deep down inside
brew renegade dreams
