Reminisce Poem by Dale Mullock

Reminisce

Reminisce
(Story Part 1)

I sit upon my bed and remember my past,
to stir old dreams that never came to pass,
so I go ahead and search my memory,
something locked away for almost an eternity,
I need to open the door by finding the key,
for this is my final chance to set it free,
so I close my eyes and search my mind,
hoping that paradise is what I find…

I am standing upon a grassy hill,
next to me is a girl sitting so still,
bending down, I wipe tears from her eyes,
she knows me but cannot hide her surprise.
“No one wants me because I was exiled.”
“Fine.” I replied. She relaxed, then smiled,
and said “They all think that I am guilty.”
“Well are you? ” I responded. She glanced at me,
a sorrowful look marked her plight,
so I turned and viewed the sky and its starlight,
I frowned, then she said “Don’t you believe me? ”
Silence followed, “Answer Me! ” she yelled. “Maybe.”
was all the reply I could muster,
but I still did not completely trust her.
She sighed “Oh, how can I convince you? ”
Then she piped up “Is the grass you sit on blue? ”
“No.” puzzled I shook my head to and fro.
“Ahh but you can’t see it, so how do you know? ”
I laughed “Just because it’s dark doesn’t mean it changes colour.”
“Yes but in the dark could you tell me from another? ”
Hesitating I murmured “Hmm, thinking about it, probably not.”
I stopped and then added “I see your point, but now what? ”
She whispered “Now I need to prove it to everyone else.”
even though it answered the question, she said it to herself.
but I retorted anyway “Easier said than done! ”
“True, ” she said, “but my confidence is not so easily won.”
“Besides I don’t want to lose the one thing that keeps me afloat.”
“Which is? ” I asked, looking at me she mouths the word ‘hope’,
then she turned towards the steadily brightening sky,
looking far in to the distance, watching the bats fly by,
standing defiantly against the wind, with dreams in her eyes,
I took her hand in mine and together we watched the sunrise…
