Release Poem by Fiona Burgess

Rating: 5.0

This black hole of rotten dreams
Like an open, seeping wound inside
A cesspit of self-destruction
Deeper and deeper, there is no end
To the pain and bitterness
The darkness closes in
Thicker, darker, colder
There's no escape from it
Ceaseless agony, memories on repeat
Like a bad horror film
Black and white,
Static characters
A never ending circle of tears
Hidden away from the world
In the deepest recesses of bloodstained caves
Where the rage and the despair
Lie poised, making brief forays
Into the light
Where their chaos is never enough
Sitting in shadowed corners
Waiting for the sobs to pass
Shattered glass all around
Blood makes pretty paterns
On once pristine white tiles
But the pain never stops
The tears continue to rain
The rage freezes and enslaves
A heart that's still beating
Savage longings gasp for air
Climb relentlessly from a tormented mind
Their sole purpose - to exist.
But each day the horror grows
And the trapped soul eaten away
By slobbering hounds of despair
That roam free on a battle field
Hidden to the outside world
While within dreams die in slow agony
The heart is wounded beyond healing
A soul is tortured
There is no hope left
All reserves depleted
All that's left is a fervent wish
For everything just to
STOP!

Silence descends
Peace beckons
Tears dry
Blood slows
Heart ceases
Release.
