Relapse Poem by Jess Patterson

Relapse

Passing Along
monotone rings
to dive into work
strive for better things.
sanding down corners
of stubborn callouses
the pulse beats on
striking mallice.
Hold on.
Letting Go..

Jolted.
Brought back to life
stunned down to shame
mounds of dirt break
loading on pain.
doors slam shut
glimmering doorknobs lock
hands band behind back
drape shadows over the clock.
For once.
the shadows,
winking shadows.
I hear your song.
Lean the other way
Because.
We're just passing along.
