Rejection Poem by Preston James

Rejection

Rating: 5.0

I people watch,
I watch them have fun
and I am having fun too.
I laugh and talk-
playing the game,
making all the right moves.
But all the while,
I am thinking
worried...
plotting my next moves in advance,
afraid to make a mistake.
Because, if I do,
I'll have no one.
The bright sky
will fill with clouds.
The people will disappear.
I won't be able to find anyone,
I'll be all alone.
Then I'll see
I moved my pawn,
revealing my king.
I left a hole in my blockade.
Checkmate.
