Regret Poem by Martin Swords

Regret

After Billy Collins

The phone rang.

It was Regret calling, again.

“You should have called, you should have called
and told me, you should have said how you felt,
what it was about, and how things were misunderstood.
You should have called.”

But it’s too late, there’s no one there to answer.

Regret will call again.

Hard to live with is regret - - and so often we all need a reminder or two for it to rear it's head once again, but there we all of us are nowhere near perfect, and you remind us so well..... good verse.
