Receive Your Sight Poem by Chris Jibero

Receive Your Sight

Riding on the crest of success
always confers blindness
on man saddled with ignorance
like a bat flushed out of its nest
by a gushing gale to confront bright
rays of sunlight of a vivacious day
stripped of gloomy clouds

A slip, a sudden fall
a temporary kiss of the dust
a tonic for the great and mighty
being a guest in the valley of dry bones
and all lions, all hyenas
and all vultures vanish

A little taste of ill-fortune
is an ample measure of salt
to a pot of soup yearning
earnestly for seasoning
a whiff of it restores sight
so, the blind, receive your sight
now or forever remain foolish
even as your bones wear new breath
and new flesh.
