Reality Check Poem by Paizli Palmrose

Reality Check

You put on a face for the human race
That says, I got it all together
Mask aside what does it hide
In the pain cave of your heart

We were never meant to live this way
Rumors of destruction every day
Hearts breakin all the time
Greed, poverty, death by crime

The haves chillin while it’s all going right
But the façade can shatter just overnight
The only sure thing once you’ve been born
Is that death will take you one future morn

You build yourself a castle mighty fortified
And pretend you’re all safe and happy inside
But everything is dross kindlin for the fire
If you cling too tight you’ll be drug through the mire

You put on a face for the human race
That says, I got it all together
Mask aside what does it hide
In the pain cave of your heart
