Read My Mind Poem by Melanie DeichertMesedea

Read My Mind

I longed to see what you thought of me
When I first saw you that winter day
The feeling of cold soon thawed away
But the cold within you I could see

The trees showed signs of death
Their leaves departed their branches rot
Better your appearance was not
But the evil within you I could see

That winter season I thought more of you
You and your emanate beauty
That fake, that smile will be the death of me
The trickster within you I could see

You are no butterfly with wings
If you were I’d rip them out
You’re a fox, the way you go about
The slyness within you I could see

Blending with the corpse white snow
Your ears are tingling, your stomach rumbling
No longer a howl, you are mumbling
The dying heart within you I could see

Maybe you are not a fox
But I still compare you
To the wickedness that is true
The fruit within you I could see

A cherry dipped in maraschino
So long it drips with blood
The blood that turned to mud
The impurity within you I could see

No longer a painfully beautiful cherry
Nonetheless the ones to marry
I could only say to the superficial
She really isn’t that special
Just a sly fox
Now stuck in a box
Of what everyone expects to be
The perfection within her, I cannot see
