Rats Poem by Max Myre

Rats

The big cheese
Hidden behind endless layers of walls
Everybody wants a piece
Some even ready to take a high fall

Using instinct, cunning and ruthlessness
We could kill each other
And we would if it wasn't for our softness
Some do, and they often get closer

To the big cheese
We cheer around beer
Dream with ease
But we're paralyzed by fear

We crawl out of bed
And on our way to work
Living within the confines of our head
Trying to see through the murk

All we do is hit wall after wall
We become aware of the fact
That within the space we crawl
We are being studied and tracked

Our masters change their ties
But wear the same hats
Don't believe all the lies
We're all trapped like rats
