Rainbow Dream Of An Unknown Dark Poem by Purushottam Dhakal

Rainbow Dream Of An Unknown Dark

Rating: 5.0

That day
In my eyes
There were innumerable dreams
It seemed
My relative who paused a moment
Carved beautiful dreams in me
And my love;
But they were busy dreaming my death in the distant horizon.
My relatives and my love fading away from my heart
Were disappearing from my eyes in the distant places
If that moment were a bad dream
I would still be lost in the illusion
And my lonely illusion in the world
Would only see my relatives and my love with these eyes.

After a long time, my eyes saw
A new dream where my relatives and my love were lost
And I felt
I shall make it colourful like a rainbow
My relatives and my love
A colourful collage
But they had not forgotten
While they are lost in the rainbow figure
My dream shall itself become a rainbow
And I a bard singing my own life
I would have shouted again
See, I have my relatives and my love
Since this truth was not known
Those who claimed to be my relatives and my love
They left the colourful moment
Towards the unknown dark
But, here I am aware
My colourful moment that they enjoyed
Was but a dark moment for them
Where my death is impossible
And they are marching towards the unknown dark
To celebrate my death.

I saw a beautiful dream again
Those who wished for my death celebration
A colourful dream
Like a rainbow
A mother dove
Joining its beak with baby doves
Enjoying the food together
Flying out and back to the nest again
With a common rainbow dream.

But this time, the nest was dismantled
It was neither a reality nor a dream
It was my clearly visible death feast in the unknown dark
And now I think
If my children repeat my mistake
Of materializing the rainbow dreams
I fear the cycle of my offspring might get ceased
If the crest of my happiness ruins
I forget myself for a moment
In my colourful dreams like a rainbow.

Why did I see such a dream
In the name of my known relatives and my love
The dream of that gone life
The banks of Tadi and the incessant flow of Trisuli
Before the life arrives at the top of the mountain
Walking through the river banks
The dust in my body got washed away
Tears wiped the dirt in the face
But my foot doesn’t move any more.

My relatives are busy in the last feast
Waiting my death
In the unknown dark
The tears I’ve shed
Have known a truth
The dirt of the mind is cleaned
I visualize their naked dance
In that unknown dark
Where they are celebrating my death feast
But now I know a truth
Death is my departure to an ocean, my emancipation
I pray to my know-unknown relatives
Who are celebrating my death feast at an unknown dark
You see a dream all your life
Celebrate my departure, my death
This is my only achievement of life
That you have given me from that unknown dark
A hope to live even after death
Have a beautiful dream like a rainbow
That colours the sky, earth and the world.
