Rain Coming Up From The Ground Poem by J.M Berger

Rain Coming Up From The Ground

I saw Chuck today. I had just come in from the rain. He was standing looking out the window of the supermarket. He wore his hooded shirt over his head. And he mentioned the wind with dread. The wind’s the worst, he said. I mean I’m paraphrasing. I can’t remember exactly what he said. Said he saw my brother the other day. Yeah I saw him working again, he said, your mother sent him here for bread. I mean I’m paraphrasing again but that’s the gist of what he said. Yeah it crazy out here, I said. Rain coming down from every side. It’s just like ‘Forrest Gump’ we agreed. It’s really a mess out there. And it’s so cold it might snow soon. To think, it was just like 70 degrees and it dropped to 30, Chuck said. Winter’s coming. Really? Yeah that’s what I heard, I said.
